Summer Camp for Fukushima-Kids (In Kori-machi they can only play 1hour because of the risk of radiation)

The Story

Did you know children in Kori-machi Fukushima are only allowed to play outside for 1hour because of the risk of radiation?

 And this is only one of the many side effects caused by the Nuclear Plant Melt Down in Fukushima. Well and truly the lives of people in Fukushima have been turned upside down.

 Not only have children lost their homes, family and friends. Everyday they have to stress about radiation levels in the food they eat, the water they drink and the environment they play in.

No child should ever have to go through this!!

Let’s do something for these kids!!

The Impact

The TA project is inviting children from Fukushima for a 4day camp in Osaka from August 17^th to 20^th.

This is how we’re going to help…….

 Help the wider community

This is not just for the children, but for the hard working parents who are trying to survive, keep their children safe and fight against a nuclear free country all at the same time.

Help by giving them hope

The media might have stopped giving them attention but we want them to show them the world still cares.

Help by giving them back their childhood.

For the past 15months they haven’t had much time to ENJOY life and have FUN.

Help by giving them courage

Heck we’re not perfect but we want to be good role models for these kids. Teach them how to be strong and show them how to deal with difficult times.

We need your help

We’re not planning on putting on some extravagant Puff Daddy style party. But we want to put on a camp where the children feel inspired. We want to give them courage, hope, love, memories and the opportunity for them to be kids again.

Although we’ve been working our butts off raising funds through events, flea markets,music events and donation boxes, we REALLY need a hand.

TA is an ongoing project, this camp is not a one off but we want to invite children from Fukushima every year for these camps!!

Who are the TAproject?

TA stands for Tanoshiku Asobou. Translated into English it means ‘Let’s play and have fun’.

We’re a group of young Japanese professional living in Osaka who are united with the passion of wanting to help these children. Some of us have lived overseas and have seen the power of how communities get together and help each other. Earlier this year, a few of us went to Fukushima and saw the devastation and knew we couldn’t just turn a blind eye.  

Please help us show these kids and Japan, what we’re doing is possible and what awesome people are out there in the world!!!

The TA Project aims to….

1) Create a memorable experience for these amazing children.

2) Raise more awareness around the world about the crisis that still lives on in Fukushima.

3) Inspire other young Japanese people to start taking action and change the world we live in. We want to show them that this is possible!

Frank Liew

After spending many of his creative years in New Zealand, Frank currently resides in Hong Kong where he works as a creative director. Known to many New Zealanders as that master mind behind the notorious boutique ‘Qubic’, Frank also writes for Hypebeast and is an influential figure in the New Zealand and beyond. Frank is also an amazing photographer and always manages to capture magical moments from around the world. The picture he donated is a shot of Tokyo from the hills in Aoyama.

Tom Gould 

Tom Gould is a New Zealand born director and photographer, based between Auckland and New York City.As a teenager, Gould was influenced and inspired by the cultural movements founded in New York City. In 2009 Gould travelled to New York and began documenting the city streets and the environment he was so heavily influenced by as a teenager.As a photographer, Gould aims to capture the underlying beauty in every situation, while portraying the raw honesty of life he encounters.

Anna Delany

Dividing her time between New Zealand and New York, Anna Delany experiences the world through her a lens, documenting the subtleties of everyday life. 

Her exploration of gritty street life exposes insights into humanity: recording our stories and documenting the second of our lives. Her images captures both fleeting moments in time, and gradual dilapidation of urban decay, each photograph with its own story to share.

 Anna Delany’s image radiates the respect which she feels for the subjects, reminding us that no one photographs something they want to forget.

David Buchler

Buchler completed his BA(Fine Art) Honours degree majoring in Printmaking and Art History at the University of Natal (South Africa) in 2004. He undertook a 6 month scholarship at Kansai Gaidai University in Japan in 2002 to study sumi-e and Japanese Art History.
In 2006 he studied in the drawing and comic department at Högskolan i Gävle in Sweden. Subsequently he has received an MA degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) in 2010.
He mostly works in installation, printmaking and video.

Buchler has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in South Africa.

Currently he has been living and working in Kyoto City, Japan for 3 years.

Owner of the design company ‘Rise Creative’ in New Zealand, Rebekah has worked with top clients including Sony music, Samsung and New Zealand Fashion week.

Rise Creative is a design and communication studio founded by Rebekah Atkins (NZ), Nathalie Drujon (Paris) + Neil Grundy (London). Their experience in Europe + New York gave form to their distinctive design approach.
