Officials in the New York CIty Board of Education–including not only Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott but the city’s standards’ architect, David Coleman–got more than they expected at an open forum last night.
They got occupied–as teachers students and parents took the power of the human mic to the meeting and told their stories in the face of what they see as bureaucratic indifference.
Here is a lovely video already made by activists with subtitles making it clear what’s happening throughout–keep watching for the appearance from an eight-year-old third grader who totally gets what’s going on and why teacher pay matters, and uses the human mic to air her grievances.
