“Fallujah: April 2004” (English version) to mark the fifth anniversary
of the US attack on Fallujah in Iraq
April and November 2004, the US military laid siege to the city of
Fallujah in northern Iraq, killing hundreds of civilians and reducing
much of the town to rubble. Western mass media largely ignored the
reality of what was happening on the ground, which was reported only by
al-Jazeerah and a few “unembedded” journalists.
Toshikuni Doi
was one of those few independent journalists, entering Fallujah 10 days
after the end of the US siege. In his documentary film “Fallujah: April
2004” he shows the impact of the attack on the town through interviews
with those who lost family members and with medical workers who
struggled to save lives in appalling conditions. To mark the fifth
anniversary of the April attack on Fallujah, we are screening the
English version of this documentary, first released in 2005, and
hosting a informal discussion in English afterwards. All welcome to
attend.
