Protest against US Subcritical Nuclear Test
Dear Mr. President,
We protest against a subcritical nuclear test conducted by your Government
in the Nevada test site on September 15, 2010.
In your speech delivered in Prague in April last year, you pledged that the
US would seek a “world without nuclear weapons”. Your administration,
like all the other parties to the treaty, agreed on the final document of
the 2010 NPT Review Conference in May this year. As is generally known, it
emphasizes “the need for the nuclear weapons states to reduce and eliminate
nuclear weapons” and calls for their constraining of the “development and
qualitative improvement”.
Whether, explosion or subcritical, the nuclear testing goes against ongoing
worldwide efforts to achieve a world without nuclear weapons. This act
apparently undermines the moral ground of your administration in calling any
other country to renounce the development of nuclear weapons or abide by
non-proliferation principle.
We urge you to abandon all future nuclear testing plans, and be sincerely
committed to the earliest possible total ban on nuclear weapons at the
current session of the United Nations General Assembly and on all the other
available occasions.
